The Rural Climate Partnership (RCP) is a collaborative philanthropic initiative supporting rural communities – particularly farmers – to lead climate solutions across the United States.
By investing in regenerative agriculture, clean energy, and community resilience, RCP ensures that rural voices are central to the climate transition. The partnership works on two fronts: it funds producers and organisations directly adopting climate-smart practices and accessing aligned markets, while also backing grassroots groups that are building climate literacy and helping communities navigate the energy transition. At its core, RCP seeks to demonstrate that rural America is not only impacted by climate change but is also a powerful driver of solutions.

Project Overview
Macdoch Foundation supported RCP as they embarked on a Regenerative Agriculture Narrative Project – a three-phase initiative designed to strengthen and unify messaging around regenerative agriculture in the American Southeast.
The first phase focused on coalition building and research, mapping existing narratives through literature reviews and social media listening. The second phase tested messages through communications research and analysis. The final phase, now underway, will deliver a shared narrative framework alongside pilot communication materials and trainings for partners.
Beyond this project, RCP has expanded its reach by investing in initiatives that enable farmers to adopt regenerative practices, reduce emissions, and improve access to climate-aligned markets. In parallel, it continues to support grassroots organisations building climate literacy and helping rural communities manage the complexities of the energy transition.
Why this Work is Important
Rural communities are on the frontlines of climate change. Farmers face rising climate risks to productivity, yet they also hold many of the solutions. Despite this, rural voices are often overlooked in climate debates. The Rural Climate Partnership helps close this gap by providing resources and support for locally driven solutions that are both practical and scalable.
The Regenerative Agriculture Narrative Project is especially important. By developing a shared narrative framework and communication tools, RCP is equipping farmers, advocates, and policymakers to speak with clarity and confidence about the role of regenerative agriculture in addressing climate and economic challenges.
Outcomes and Impact
We are supporting RCP to strengthen its role as a catalyst for rural climate leadership. The Regenerative Agriculture Narrative Project will guide how advocates, farmers, and organisations tell the story of regeneration, ensuring it resonates with rural communities and builds wider support. Pilot training programs and materials will equip partners with practical tools for messaging and outreach.
At the same time, RCP’s investments are helping farmers adopt regenerative practices that lower emissions, increase soil health, and create pathways to climate-aligned markets.
Grassroots organisations are building climate literacy and supporting communities through the energy transition, ensuring that the shift is not only low-emissions but also fair and inclusive.
Over the long term, this work is improving livelihoods, strengthening rural economies, and reshaping the national conversation—placing farmers and rural communities at the centre of climate action.
