Project Overview

SevGen is currently focused on three core initiatives: Galeru Native Foods Orchard, Deadly Espresso Café, and the SevGen cultural hub. These enterprises are designed to operate in a closed loop: supporting local food production, skill development, and job creation in a culturally informed environment.

The acquisition of the Galeru Farm in 2021 created a powerful opportunity for SevGen to advance Indigenous leadership in food systems and regenerative agriculture. It quickly became a meaningful place for culture, enterprise, and environmental care to come together.

Macdoch Foundation’s funding is aimed at strengthening SevGen’s capacity. The support covers core operational and back-office functions, freeing Terri up to focus on strategic leadership. It also enables the employment of a youth team member at the Galeru orchard, providing meaningful, culturally safe work and training opportunities.

Why this Work is Important

SevGen’s mission and model of change aligns strongly with our commitment to nature-positive systems, Indigenous excellence and opportunity, and healthy rural communities.

The organisation embodies intergenerational thinking, regeneration of Country, and enterprise-driven empowerment – principles that mirror our vision for long-term systems change.

Our support of SevGen is an investment in a living demonstration of Indigenous-led enterprise and food systems transformation.

Outcomes and Impact

Macdoch Foundation’s funding is enabling SevGen to expand its youth employment opportunities at the Galeru Farm and across its social enterprises, offering culturally safe, hands-on training and pathways into long-term work. With additional staff and resources, it is scaling up farm operations, increasing bush food production, and growing its role in regenerative agriculture.

Importantly, this investment is strengthening First Nations participation and leadership in the food system and positioning SevGen as a model for culturally grounded, community-driven agricultural innovation.
