The Capitals Coalition is a global collaboration driving a shift in how the world defines and measures value — embedding nature, people, and place into the heart of economic and business decision-making. With over 500 organisations in its network, the Coalition promotes “capitals thinking,” a framework that integrates natural, social, human, and produced capital into everyday choices.

Value Australia is its newest regional hub, and the first in the Pacific. The hub will bring together leaders across policy, business, finance, and community sectors to shape a more inclusive, nature-positive approach to value in Australia’s economy.

Project Overview

Macdoch Australia is supporting the establishment of Value Australia, led by financial expert Rayne van den Berg, known for her leadership in natural capital accounting and our Farming for the Future program.

In its first phase, Value Australia is building a national network, adapting global frameworks like the Integrated Capitals Framework to the Australian context, and creating opportunities for peer learning. The hub will work with senior decision-makers to embed the value of nature, people, and place into policy and corporate processes.

By coordinating efforts across sectors and reducing duplication, it aims to accelerate Australia’s shift towards integrated, nature-positive decision-making.

Why this Work is Important

Around the world, economies are beginning to recognise that long-term resilience depends on more than financial capital — it relies on healthy ecosystems, strong communities, and the wellbeing of people.

In Australia, these drivers are still rarely built into mainstream business, finance, or policy decisions. Value Australia helps to close this gap, equipping leaders with the tools and knowledge to understand and value all forms of capital.

This work directly aligns with our commitment to nature-positive systems and long-term resilience. With COP31 on the horizon, the hub helps to position Australia as a credible, coordinated voice in shaping how value is defined and delivered globally.

Outcomes and Impact

With our support, Value Australia is emerging as a national hub for integrated value approaches, helping shift how Australia defines and manages what truly matters. By convening leaders across policy, business, finance, and community, it is building a powerful cross-sector network that applies capitals thinking in practice. Global frameworks are being adapted to the Australian context, making them relevant, practical, and actionable. This work is equipping decision-makers with the tools and confidence to place nature, people, and place at the heart of strategy.

Over time, Value Australia will strengthen how Australia defines, measures, and manages value — placing ecological health, community wellbeing, and human capital alongside financial outcomes.

This shift will guide investment and policy towards decisions that strengthen resilience and create enduring benefits for both people and the planet.
